I have been toying with the idea of getting tested for Huntington’s disease, for those of you who are new to my blogs, HD is a degenerative disease which is hereditary and sadly my dad has it.
I began the testing process in 2011, and it was horrific, you can read all about it in my blog post My Experience Testing for Huntington’s disease. I feel like it’s time to give it another shot; I could argue all day that I should or should not get tested, but I feel like it is something I need to do soon. If I have HD it will affect certain decisions I make in life, and I would like to be more prepared. With the advancements in science and the ability to go through PGD, resulting in HD free babies and giving Stephen an answer as to what my future holds and as a result our future. There are also other amazing things happening in the HD research, with the announcement being made that two clinical studies are to begin by the end of 2018.
I have thought about this a lot and I have decided that there is no ‘good time’ to find out you have a detonative disease which currently has no cure! So I have decided, I will make this process a positive! I want to film the entire thing, from I make the first appointment to I get my results. These vlogs will show everything, the tears, laughter, appointments, and everything that comes in-between!!
I just need to gather the confidence up to get behind the camera!!
Stay tuned for more info!! And wish me luck!!
