Highest Peak for HD- #Imnotdrunk and the Island of Ireland

So I want to challenge myself, I don’t want to grow old and have regret’s that I lead a boring life, sitting watching Netflix and cleaning my house. If I don’t get the chance to grow old, due to the genetic fate that I am uncertain off I want to make sure I have done all I can and want to before it’s too late.

I read a blog post a while back about climbing to the highest peak in each county on the Island of Ireland; I thought this was a pretty cool idea.

So there are 32 counties in total on the Island of Ireland, 26 of which are in the Republic of Ireland and 6 in Northern Ireland. Some of the highest peaks overlap each other, which means it’s a good one mountain = two counties!!

This is a big undertaking some of these mountains are huge! And I’m not exactly the healthiest or fit person, but I feel like I want a challenge. When I first thought of this idea I thought it would be cool to do it in a year, make it a real challenge and bring you along for the ride, blogging about my experience. Then I realised that would be doing 2 or 3 a month! I don’t think I could do that!

I don’t live near many of the peaks, especially the ones down the south of Ireland? So this would mean traveling long distances, which is fine before the hike, but not fine after the hike. Staying overnight would be the best option which adds a cost into my little adventure.

So let’s be honest I’m going to start with the smallest, thinking it’ll be the easiest!! Above is a list of the peaks in alphabetical order, and their height in meters, but below is a list of the smallest to the biggest.

Westmeath

Longford

Meath

Monaghan

Kildare

Roscommon

Kilkenny

Offlay and Laois

Clare

Antrim

Armagh

Louth

Leitrim and Sligo

Fermanagh and Cavan

Tyrone and Derry/Londonderry

Cork

Galway

Donegal

Dublin

Waterford

Carlow and Wexford

Mayo

Down

Limerick and Tipperary

Wicklow

Kerry

Taking into account some counties share a peak, I’m left with 26, which means 2 moutains a month to complete it within the year. What are my chances?

I think I’m mental, and I think people will laugh at me when they read this, but I think it’s exciting and would be amazing to say you have done this.

I’m not stupid I understand it’s dangerous and you need to be careful, you need to train and know what you’re doing. It wouldn’t be a challenge if it sounded easy.

Challenge yourself every day, it could be something simple like putting on a face of make and heading out into the world, even though you would rather crawl back into bed and stay there! Make the most of your life and have no regrets! I would like to think my dad had a pretty amazing life, it certainly sounds like he did!! I want to make sure I do to!!

So….. what do we all think… am I up for the challenge?

and does anyone want to do it with me ? 😀
