Every family has traditions around Christmas time. My family was and is no different. Although this year Ryan and I are in America, normally we spend it with family. Our traditions have changed over the years but they always spent with our loved ones. When we were kids we would go to dads house, open presents from our aunts and uncles and then head back to mums. Dad would come over Christmas day and spend the day at mums, just like normal families do. Of course, bringing with him our presents. When we got older and dad got sick, it changed slightly, dad was being mean and I didn’t want to be around that. I stopped staying at his house but I still went to see him. When Ryan and I were old enough to drink there were a few years where we would meet friends in the local pub! It was good fun, there was a decent amount of drink drank but it was being with old friends and new friends. People you went to school with that you may be only seen once a year! I loved it, i left home when i was 17, so this was always a great night getting to see friends. As for family traditions, we just popped over to see dad, he had a fiancee but after she left (Thank Fuck!!) we had to change things up a little. Dad was at the point of needing care, it varies over the years but roughly, Ryan and I would pop in and check on his Christmas eve and then head to mums. We never bothered trying to make a Christmas dinner at dads house, let’s be fair it would be left to me and i couldn’t boil water at this point! Mum would make an amazing Christmas dinner and we would bring dad some with dessert also. Mum, Ryan, Stevie, Robyn and Hannah and i stared a new tradition in recent years where we would head to the pub. It’s always been such a nice way to spend Christmas eve, over the years we have been away at university or busy getting on with our lives, but on Christmas eve we came together and have a proper catch-up. We had a few drinks and then headed home. Everyone’s family has a different tradition, some spend it in their matching PJs, watching movies, maybe opening one present! We have had a lot of different Christmas eve traditions, with me living and working away i didn’t normally get home until late on Christmas eve, we would head to the pub with friends, or as a family.

There is no right or wrong way to spend your Christmas eve, mine was normally spent working and then driving an hour home, don’t ask me why but i always seem to move an hour from my family! As i said Ryan and i will be in America this Christmas eve, so i cant wait to see how we spend it.

We still managed to carry out our Christmas eve tradition tho, we all met in our local bar and had a few drinks, Mum, Stevie, Ryan, Hannah, Robyn and me! We just have done it a few days early.

Enjoy your Christmas eve tomorrow guys!
